Hello, MDM Admissions!

I bring an important skillset necessary to excel in the Master of Digital Media program. My sample of work is focused on the attributes and disciplines that I feel best demonstrate my competency as a designer. My education in philosophy and digital media have given me both the technical and phenomenological expertise to ideate with a strong level of proficiency. A designer equipped with a degree in philosophy shows no fear in grappling with the most challenging concepts.

My sample of work summary is integrated into my portfolio for your viewing pleasure.
I am an aspiring Immersive Media Designer
My goal is to take my background in philosophy, filmmaking, photography, and production and apply it to the exciting new world of immersive media. My studies in philosophy will prove invaluable when it comes to implementing empathic design principles to create optimized projects tailored to specific groups and their needs. As a photographer, I aim to produce photographs that are designed to stay true to the context within which they are taken while delivering exceptional client experiences. When filmmaking, I strive to effectively use both visuals and audio to elicit a heightened sense of immersion in my audience. Finally, my experience as a producer, developing storyboards and script breakdowns are skills that are shown to be transferable in the designing of XR applications. To be given the opportunity to gain real world experience working on a team on an AR/VR project would enrich my journey in the world of immersive media design.
Filmmaker
In 2024, I was asked to film an inspirational video for the TRU faculty who took part in the creation of an Honours College. The goal of the video is to celebrate the hard work that has been put into the creation of what will be the first Honours College in Canada. With this goal in mind, I set out to capture moments of collaboration and enthusiasm to tell an effective story. I learned how to layer the audio of the faculty’s dialogue in a soundscape in order to emphasize the collaborative nature of the project.

Photographer
Working as a portrait and event photographer has taught me the importance of producing deliverables specific to clients needs and having a seamless system of operations. When taking photos, I learned to ground each photo session in its context. For example, for business headshots, I opt for a shallow depth of field to focus more on the subject whereas with portraits and events I compose my shots to include more of the surroundings to create greater environmental storytelling. I also learned that I needed to ensure my clients experience having their photos taken, booking the session, signing the contract and paying for the services was as simple and straightforward as possible. This was accomplished by conducting extensive research to find a service that met these demands while also fitting within my business budget.

Producer
This year, I was asked to film a short video to capture the launch of a research journal and partnership between the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization and the TRU Knowledge Makers. This video was shown at the United Nations Headquarters in Rome to international delegates. When producing this video, I knew I wanted to include B-roll segments that highlighted the collaboration and making of the journal. I used a project management tool, Milanote, to storyboard the section of the video that includes the Knowledge Makers engaging in this activity.
The buttons below will send you to this storyboard as well as the finished video. For your convenience the storyboarded section is from 1:10 - 1:45.
Additionally, here is a script breakdown that I made during an Introduction to Producing course I took last summer with Vancouver Film School. Script breakdowns are done to analyze a story and get a clear picture of all the building blocks needed for its production.
